Chicago Crown Fountain
Crown Fountain is a public art and interactive work located in Chicago Millennium Park. It was designed by Catalan artist Yom pranza and opened in July 2004.
The $17 million crown fountain design consists of a reflection pool made of black granite. On both sides are glass brick towers, 15.2 meters (50 feet) high, and equipped with light-emitting diodes (LEDs) to display digital images of the internal face. Limited by the weather, the fountain only supplies water from May to October. It flows from the second tower from time to time and ejects through the nozzle in the front of the tower.
The whole set of fountain design works consists of two glass brick towers and a black granite reflecting pool between them. The 15 meter high display screen controlled by the computer alternately plays different smiling faces representing 1000 citizens of Chicago, welcoming tourists from all over the world.
