Buckingham fountain is one of the largest fountains in the world. Its base is made of pink marble. The diameter of the pool is 85 meters, the water storage capacity is 5.7 million liters, and the water spraying capacity is 14000 gallons per minute. At night, under the reflection of 10000 lights, the fountain is very magnificent and spectacular. Every summer, large-scale concerts are often held in the park. The fountain was designed and carved by acques Lambert imitating the latona fountain in Versailles, France, and was donated by Kate Buckingham to the city of Chicago in memory of her brother Clarence Buckingham. Meanwhile, Kate Buckingham also invested US $300000 to establish Buckingham fountain endowment fund as the maintenance cost of the fountain.
Buckingham fountain is located in Grant Park in the east of the city. The park is seen as the front yard of Zhicheng, and the fountain is seen as the front door of Zhicheng, welcoming guests from all over the world. The original color lighting design of the Memorial Fountain simulates the soft moonlight. Marcel f. loyau, the sculptural bronze designer of the fountain, won the National Grand Prix at the salon in Paris in 1927. By 1968, the fountain was completely operated manually by two engineers, 12 hours a day. Until the first automatic night light show in 1968, the sprinkler system of the fountain continued to operate manually. It was not until 1980 that the fountain was fully computerized.
Creative design
The fountain was designed by Edward h. Bennett, an architect of Beaux Arts, who was inspired by the latona fountain in the palace of Versailles, France. Those exquisite and elegant sculptures come from Marcel f. loyau, a famous French sculptor. The base structure of the fountain is made of granite and pink Georgian marble carefully carved in the style of four latona fountains. Hundreds of water splashes shot at the center, and a water column in the center was 40 to 50 meters high. In the evening, the color lights shine from the bottom of the spring. The water color of the lights, such as high-altitude fireworks and undersea coral, is magnificent and spectacular.
